Charlie Mae Campbell

Charlie Mae Campbell began her life’s journey on February 25, 1942, in New Willard, Texas. Charlie was the first child from the union of Will Ducre and Tensie Lee Neely blessed with 78 years on earth. Charlie was preceded in death by both of her parents, five brothers and one sister: Ned Nathan Duckworth, Clifton Duckworth, James Duckworth, Samuel Duckworth, John Lee Ducree and Elizabeth Parker. Strong, spirited, decisive and prideful are a few adjectives to describe Charlie. She learned that delicate balance of strength and perseverance, having the example before her of a mother who spoke her mind, a loving provider for her family. Charlie graduated from St. Tammany Highschool in Slidell, Louisiana. Charlie distinguished herself as an athlete and a scholar, receiving accolades and awards in basketball and excellent Choral Musicianship. Charlie was brought to Chicago the night of graduation at 17 years old to get a job and wasn’t old enough and had to wait until she turned 18 years old to get a job. Charlie’s first job was at Spiegel Department Store. Seeking to earn more money, Charlie had numerous jobs. She worked at Sears, City of Chicago Englewood Urban Program Center, Johnson & Johnson, United States Steel, IYC Chicago, Stateville Correctional Center and as a Parole Agent, which she retired from. Charlie was a true friend to all those who came in contact with her, she was loyal and true blue. Charlie’s favorite pastime was to be out on a fishing pond catching fish with her best friend buddy Charles Griffin, deceased. Charlie loved to barbeque and she would host a great party. She was an entertainer at heart. Charlie married John Lee Lee (divorced). She later married Marvin Campbell (divorced) and to that union they adopted a beautiful baby girl they named Stephanie Elizabeth Campbell. During her final years, Charlie succumbed to end stage Alzheimer and heart failure. A life, well lived, well spent, filled with events, warmth, struggle, joy and finally peace. Charlie leaves to forever cherish her memory, her daughter Stephanie Elizabeth Campbell of Chicago, IL; grandchildren: Ja’Taya Campbell, Jay’Onna Campbell and Tyler Campbell. Her great grandchildren: Jameia, Jaliyah, Jaylah, Aulbrey, Josiah and Ty’Jon of Chicago, IL. Nephews, nieces and all those who were always there for me: Lenore Burt, Cecil Cannon, Mona & Wilber Hollins, Bennie and Delores Jefferson, Mellonie and Melvin Jones. Jennifer Kisier, Regina Marshall, Albertha McCauley, LaAnn Patrick and a host of other relatives and friends.
