Mary Evans

Mary Evans was born into time on March 18, 1825, in Waukegan IL to the late and proud parents of Lula and Silva Beritto. During early years Mary confessed her life to Christ and was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church where her mother was a charter member. Mary attended Rogers Elementary, Madill Middle School, and graduated from McKinley High School. And later went onto graduated from a local junior college. Mary began her career at the Department of Labor. Later she embarked on a career at the Cook County Assessors Office where she performed administrative duties for 28 years up until the time of retirement. In 1947 Mary Beritto married Oscar H. Evans to this union one son was born Gregory Terrence. She also, raised as her own Theodore Sol and the late Ronald Silva. Through Mary life she was actively involved in politics. Under Alderman Ben Louis Mary became co-founder of the Lawndale Youth Commission, where she dedicated her time and effortless devotion to teaching young African-American Teens etiquette and proper social graces. She also, encouraged young women to learn more about their cultural and historic background. Mary was an impeccable dresser and applauded for her sense of fashion and style. Mary embraced her calling as a role model to young woman and loved and treated them like family. Mary was responsible was for the implantation and coordination of the Westside very first quintillion under the auspices of Congressman George Collins. She was a member democrated women’s committed under Mayor Richard Daley for the 24th ward. She severed as a precinct captain where she assisted in performing office duties, organizing food drives, fundraisers, other community affairs and the improvement of her ward and precinct. Mary was a proud and independent woman who loved and adored her children, family and extended family. She was passionate and loving towards her family and because of this love her doors were always open to the young and the old. Mary was a member of the Red Hater Society “Sapphire Divas” God granted her perfect piece on Monday January 9th, 2012. Mary leaves a legacy of family and love, devotion, sharing, and caring to: Her loving son Gregory and (Marcea), 2 nephews Theodore and Timmy her loving nieces Leasha Beritto, Rolanda Beritto, Annette Smith, Dela Louis, Linda Berdell, Deobrah Bogan, Diane Bogan, Jalane, Jackie, Valentina, and Lynn her sister-in-law Mague Bogan her caring nephews Anthony, Andre, Charles, Bruce, god-children Loraine, Annie, Andre, Carol, Eddie, Darlene, Telia grandchildren Chrystal, Dominique, Deja, Yesmine, and Deven 3 great-grandchildren Dwayne, Tyzohn, and Rhoni dear friends June and Iola and a host of other relative and loyal friends.
