October 31, 1971 - August 1, 2012
October 31, 1971 was a wonderful day for my parents, Joe and Katherine Marshall…I, Joe Marshall, III, entered into this world. I was the last of seven children born to them. So, yes, I was their “Baby Boy”. I accepted Christ as my personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at Greater New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois. During my elementary years, I attended St. Justin Martyr School where I excelled quite well! I later went on to Chicago Vocational High School (CVS) from which I graduated in 1989. While at CVS, I was on the baseball and football teams. Needless to say, I was an avid sports fanatic…and a lover of House music! In 1991, I was afforded the opportunity to attend Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. On July 12, 2009, I married the love of my life… DeShirnette Acquantas Walker. God blessed us with two beautiful children: Jhanaye Ashaun and Jamir Ahman, in addition to my first-born son, Jhanari Joe. On June 26, 2011, I became a proud member of Faith Movers Church (FMC) under the Pastorate of Moses B. Herring, Sr. This is definitely the perfect church for people who are not! During my time at FMC, I was privileged to serve on the Media Ministry. Because of my love for people, I was able to wear many managerial hats in the corporate world. I served as manager for numerous businesses throughout my career. One of my greatest passions in life was food! I loved food...from its preparation, to its presentation and of course, to its consumption! My fried corn, jerk turkey and stuffed peppers were always in high demand from all who have ever experienced them! I was also a lover of fine and quaint restaurants. But don’t get me wrong…I loved the little “holes-in-the-walls”, too. I could definitely recommend restaurants of any kind to my family and friends. I was also known as the family comedian! I loved to laugh and I loved to make others laugh as well. Laughter is definitely good for the soul! On August 1, 2012, God called me home to be with Him. It was a call that I was not expecting but had to answer. God never makes mistakes! In answering God’s call, I had to leave behind my cherished family members: loving wife, DeShirnette Marshall; three children, Jhanari, Jhanaye and Jamir Marshall; mother, Katherine Marshall of Chicago, Illinois; one brother, Andre (Tiffany) Marshall of Jacksonville, Florida; four sisters, Donyell Marshall of Detroit, Michigan, Twyla (Howard) Poindexter of Richton Park, Illinois, LTanya Marshall of Chicago, Illinois, Selena (Lee) Gordon of University Park, Illinois; mother-in-law, Pamela Walker of Calumet City, Illinois; father-in-law, Clarence Walker of Blue Island, Illinois; grandfather, James Slaughter, Sr., of Madison, Mississippi; brother-in-law, Demarius Edwards of Williamstown, Massachusetts, and an abundance of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Family and friends, always remember the good times that we shared. Look to God to be your Comforter for He shall surely comfort you. God would never put more on you than you can bear. Rest assured that I am now resting peacefully in heaven alongside with my dad, Joe Marshall, Jr., my brother, Carlton and my grandma Ola. I hope that you enjoyed my story…and remember, I love you all!
